There is new research that soy based medicine can increase the life expectancy of prostate cancer patients by dramatically slowing down the spread of cancer cells throughout the rest of the body. This is fantastic news because soy based medicine is non toxic. Older men generally are the ones getting prostate cancer, and slowing the spread of the cancer cells basically reduces the condition to a chronic illness. If the cancer was always contained in the prostate gland, death would by no means be imminent. This is essentially saying it can slow down or stop the cancer cells from metastasizing. This new drug was tested in animals first and is now being used in humans. This has great potential implications for other types of cancers as well.

Many experts in the field are hoping to reduce this problem to a chronic illness. If that can happen, expect life expectancies to increase in a major way. There are other interesting drugs that could prolong a life span in the pipeline. I’ll let you know when they become available.

Picture this, 2 of my Dad’s closest friends were diagnosed around the same time with aggressive prostate cancer. When the initial shock subsided, the first question they both had was, “How long can I expect to live”?

It’s the obvious question. One of the guys researched it extremely well and asked his doctor for a print out of people in his exact situation and read out his chance of living. The results according to the doctor’s sheet was that he had a 49% chance of being alive after 5 years. Not even 50%.

That is very stressful and emotional to be faced with that type of prognosis. Well, it’s 8 years later and he’s totally fine. He’s 66 now and he cycles far and fast every day. He looks great. The other guy was in a similar situation.

The point is this: They both took remained as calm as possible and took care of themselves. They are smart guys and knew the statistics included everyone. They wanted to improve their odds and they did everything they could. Don’t listen to these odds. Read everything you can and realize that you can beat it too if you do the right things. They did have surgery, but no chemo. Of course, every case is slightly different, but make sure you talk it over with your doctor. Also, make sure your doctor is a good one. One of the guys had 2 doctors. The first doctor totally missed the diagnosis because aggressive prostate cancer is from rapidly rising psa levels, not just total psa. Take your life in your own hands and you can beat this thing and live to a ripe old age.

If you have any stage of prostate cancer, you can use many tools and calculators to figure out how long you will have to live. Although understandable, this is a really silly game to play for a couple of reasons.

First, the statistics really aren’t accurate enough because there are so many variables. Second, if your result looks bad, it could be a negative self fulfilling prophecy. If you think you will die soon, your body will produce stress hormones that make you sicker and weaker. This is what happens to a lot of people with many cancers.

Think about how scared you got when the doctor told you the news. The cancer didn’t get worse at that moment, but your body was instantly flooded with stress hormones. This has a huge influence on your life expectancy. You can improve it with diet, exercise, surgery if necessary, attitude, and even chemo if necessary. Talk to the best doctor you can afford. Get different opinions. This is your life we’re talking about and how long it will be has a lot to do with how you handle yourself from this moment on. Forget about the calculator. It’s really not the right way to go. Others have beaten this disease, you can too.

A lot of people want to know the answer to this question. First of all, I’d like you to make sure you know exactly why you might not get treatment. If the doctor recommends it and you can afford it, get it. If someone is very old and that is the problem, it’s really hard to say. Men in their 80’s and 90’s often have prostate cancer and die of something else. It’s impossible to get reliable statistics on this question because people get different forms of the disease at different ages. They also get it diagnosed at different times and have different emotional responses to it. If you try to eat well, exercise, and remain mentally positive, it could add years, but really consider getting treatment asap if you are able to do it. If you really can’t or won’t, don’t give up. Some people have been known to miraculously get rid of cancer. Look into treatment first and then rely on faith.

If you have what they call stage 3 prostate cancer, your cancer has spread just outside the covering of the prostate, but luckily not throughout the body. Everyone is different and it’s impossible to tease out your exact odds of survival. The good news is that there are many people who can live for a very long time after this diagnosis. It’s important to take immediate action and do all the right things to increase your chances. Don’t worry about horror stories. You can bet this. If you want some clinical numbers, which they admit aren’t incredibly accurate but it’s all they have, go to Stage 3 statistics

Stage 4 prostate cancer may sound worse than it is. The statistics include men who die from other causes. Remember, a lot of men are old anyway when they get this disease, and when they die, they get included in the statistics. This means, if a 95 year old man has stage 4 prostate cancer and dies within 3 years, he will be included in the statistic of men who don’t make it. This is ridiculous because there is a high chance that any 95 year old man will die within 3 years. If you have it and read the gloomy statistics, remember that they are skewed to make it look worse than it is. Also, because many people don’t understand this concept, they literally scare themselves to death. This is from a slow release of toxic negative hormones that deep fear causes. Try to remain positive and get all the info you can. You can beat these statistics based on just the few reasons I mentioned. They sound simple but they are very important. People who think they will die have a much higher chance of dying than those who believe they have a shot. The truth is you do have a great chance to make it and it’s important you think that way.

If you have been diagnosed with Stage 1 or 2 prostate cancer, your chances of survival are awesome. They may be even better than the statistics say, which sound good anyway. You can easily cure the disease from this stage and live a normal healthy life, until you die of something totally different many years later. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that. Research this, keep your spirits high, and get ready to beat this disease and think about how years later you can look back on this as an interesting and challenging experience that helped shape your life and make you a better more understanding person.

If you’ve been diagnosed with hormone refractory life expectancy you aren’t alone. Now is not the time to get depressed and listen to the grim statistics. This emotional burden is more often the cause of death than the disease. Many people beat this and it’s important that you choose to do what the people in that group do instead of the other group. This is not the same as rolling the dice. You have a lot of choice about your future life span. Read this website here to learn about people who overcame this disease and how they did it. It’s about real experiences and you should learn from them.

Survival Rates for Metastatic prostate Cancer:

Ok, so you caught your prostate cancer late, it’s already spread, and you are sad, scared, and wondering what to do. Getting the statistics on survival rates or life expectancy for your metastatic prostate cancer isn’t the way to go. Everyone’s case is different. Attitude, diet, and a whole host of other factors go into this.

Remember when the Dr. first told you about your cancer? How did you feel for those first 48 hours?

Nothing physically changed during that time, but this mind/body connection made you produce a bunch of chemicals that made you feel much worse. Imagine if he told you later that he read the wrong chart and you don’t really have prostate cancer at all. Your body would produce a bunch of healthy chemicals and you’d feel amazing. Again, nothing would be physically different during this situation. So much of your experience with prostate cancer, or any cancer or illness, is how you deal with it emotionally. You can’t put those numbers into a prostate cancer calculator and come up with something. Rating your emotional health from 1 to 10 is absurd.

How can you get your body to naturally produce those healing chemicals that give you hope instead of fear? Doctors often get caught up in the average life expectancies. You don’t want to be average here. The average isn’t a pretty picture. But the good news is you don’t have to be average.

The average person in this situation shuts down and counts down the rest of their days. Maybe they go on a diet or two, but in all seriousness, they don’t believe they can be cured and they aren’t. They then contribute to another statistic that makes the whole thing look more grim for people like you.

How can you be different? Telling someone to think positive thoughts during this time is much easier said than done. Most people don’t have conscious control over that. It’s kind of like someone telling you to consciously stop your heart from beating for the next 15 seconds. You understand the concept, but your body will keep that heart going anyway because you don’t know how to tell it to stop.

There is a big difference however. With proper mental training, and other healthy living techniques, it is possible to reverse your metastatic prostate cancer.

Some people do this, doctors often get quoted as saying something like, “I’ve never seen a case like that. It was a real medical miracle”.

What they really mean is that they don’t understand exactly what happened. They can’t explain it so they file it into the “miracle” category and move on.

Obviously you want to be in this miracle category and it’s essential you do everything you can and research everything so that you can be a miracle and cure your prostate cancer that has already metastasized. Don’t allow yourself to be average here. You deserve another shot at life.
